In a new initiative Jump, the leading Child Trust Fund provider, has teamed up with the Guardian to
produce a family orientated podcast designed to touch every aspect of today's family life. Podcasts are becoming a popular way for people on the go to pick up information in a convenient format that can be listened to in a variety of ways. Podcasts can be downloaded and played on computers, MP3 players or mobile phones with the correct applications.
The new podcast will be presented by Miranda Sawyer, a Guardian columnist with the first edition being released in early February 2010.
Miranda is keen to emphasise that the new podcast will be aimed at all families, not just the middle of the road average 2.4 kids family. She says that the magazine format will aim to touch families of all sizes and to reassure them that they are not unusual.
The first edition included contributions from Education and Children secretary Ed Balls, Jay Rayner from the Observer and comedian Alan Davies. Balls talks about his family life, Rayner about food and Davies takes listeners through a selection of his favourite music tracks that help him to conjure up a happy family existence.
Although not covered in the initial podcast, family finances will be a topic for future releases. Amongst topics that may be covered are saving for children, including child savings accounts and Child Trust Funds.
The new podcast has been welcomed by James Frost, Marketing Director for Witan Investment Trust. He commends the link between Jump and the Guardian and believes that their quality editorial and technical expertise will help Jump to create a greater awareness of its savings schemes for children, including Child Trust Funds. With all children born since September 2002 having a Child Trust Fund account, looking at investment options to maximise returns for the long term financial future of their children will be a key area for information.
