Good news on Father's Day - super hero's, it seems, are no match for a dad. Five and six year old boys and girls rate their dad as the number one person that they most admire, with mum coming a close second for the girls and fifth for the boys - no princess, fire-fighter or cup-winning footballer came close.
The survey was conducted by The Children's Mutual, a leader provider of Child Trust Funds, amongst 1,000 of their customers and continues an annual trend to see how attitudes are changing.
The survey also confirmed the continuing importance of the extended family with Grandma finishing ninth in the list for the girls and Granddad also placing ninth for the boys.
Tony Anderson, Marketing Director for The Children's Mutual was pleased to see that kids of today can see past the special effects and costumes of their TV and film hero's. He also praised dad's for wanting to do the best they can for their children's future – especially when there is no large
Bruce Wayne style inheritance for them to rely on!
Anderson promises that this is where The Children's Mutual can help. Child Trust Fund's were set up to encourage parents to save for the child's financial future. In addition to £250 vouchers (£500 for those from lower income households) from the government at birth and age 7, parent's, family
and friends can make additional contributions of up to £1,200 per year into the Child Trust Fund to help it grow, tax free, until the child is aged 18. Saving just £24 per month (the current average) can lead to a Child Trust Fund account worth £9,700 by the time the child turns 18. This can increase
to £37,000 if the maximum £100 per month is invested for the whole 18 years. Whilst the fund is free to be used in any way, it can be a significant contributor to paying university fees or for a deposit on a first property.
