I opened a cash Child Trust Fund account with Britannia Building Society in a branch office. We had to wait for about 5 minutes, which we could spend in the nursery corner. I was offered a nice cup of coffee. Staff members were very kind and professional. My baby was with me screaming his head off, and they were very understanding. They gave me all the necessary information about the product and the building society. Despite all this happening at 4 in the afternoon, our documents arrived in the post the next morning. I am very impressed with them, and hope this will be the case in 18 years’ time as well.

I opened a child trust fund for my daughter with Britannia about 2 months ago at the same time as transferring my own ISA ovewr to them. It took over a month for me to receive any correspondence regarding the CTF and this was just a letter to say that they had received the £250 from the government for my daughter. I am yet to receive anything else and have not even been given a welcome pack for the CTF (was referred to in the confirmation letter that I should have one already). There has been no acknowledgement at all for my ISA. I must admit I was pretty disappointed with the service provided on both counts as I have always thought Britannia were pretty good on service, however I believe the CTF account itself has one of the highest rates currently available.

I opened a first savers account for my son in the local branch of Britannia Building Society. It only needed £1 to open the account. In return, he got a free ceramic money box in the shape of a pig which he can paint when he is older. The staff were very friendly. The branch was in my local town centre and is easy to get to. The branch assistant had said he would post me out some paying in slips etc but they never have arrived. It also wasn't a buggy friendly office but we coped with getting the buggy up the steps in the end. I came away with the pass book on the same day that I handed the £1 coin over (and the money box too). I think that offer has finished. Worth looking at other offers to get value for your money and something in return. .
