do we make our children work for their money or is this making them servants. Is it better to make them a monthly allowance and teach them how to divide it into priorities

I think pocket money is a good thing, as long as they do earn it. Not necessarily by doing chores but by just behaving in general etc. I feel it's good for kids to be aware of how to save/spend wisely at a youngish age.

Pocket money is a good thing as children will learn to spend their own money, not their parents. It is also a good start for them to become independant.

I think its ok as long as you stick at it and you can afford to do it.Giving them some chores is ok it gives them some idea how to run a home and also know what is to come when they start work.

I received pocket money as a child so I think it's a good thing. :) However, a small amount of money at regular intervals whether gained through pocket money, chores or work (if your child is older) definitely helps with budgeting skills. I'm sure if I never had any money to call my own I wouldn't have learnt how to control my finances till I left home!

I think that pocket money is a good thing. If taught correctly by their parents they will learn about the value of money, the importance of saving for something that they want, and that it does'nt grow on trees!

My son has had a £1 pocket money each week from each grandparent since he was born!!! I dont know why they decided that young. He saves it in hes percy money box and sometimes he has a little bit for a book.hes 3 by the way. I really want him to understand about saving as hes dad never had to save for anything as he always got what he wanted and then got into debt when he left home.

I definately think pocket money is a good idea. When i was younger we had chores to do but never got anything for doing them . I would much rather give my son pocket money for doing a chore so he wont resent me when he is older. I must admit i did feel like a slave for my parents!

I think thats pocket money is a good idea, so long as the child earns it in some way. Even if it is just tidying up their bedroom.
