Morning Michael, in answer to your question the provider will be covered if they are a member of the financial services compensation scheme which most organizations will be and it would say if they were on their website, details of the scheme can be found at http://www.fscs.org.uk/
I would point out any scheme is only ever going to be a strong as the government that backs it for example a lot of people would have put money into Icelandic banks and Irish banks recently but some of these are covered under their own governments scheme rather than the UK government and going through any compensation scheme overseas would invariably take a significantly longer time and may involve claims from UK and overseas governments which would certainly not be preferable in my opinion.
