My daughter was born in March and I've had her trust fund voucher sitting on my desk for a while. I had no idea what to do with it, so I googled child trust fund and found a link to myeggnest.com. After reading many of your reviews I felt completely at ease in investing my little ones money with family investments. The web site was so easy to use, I think I only took about 5 mins to set it up. which is good for me as I'm no pro on the pc. What I really liked about the fund was that it was an ethical one. As I've only just set it up, I have no bad comments to make on it.

After much research and deliberation, we decided to open an Ethical Trust Fund with Family Investments. The website is easy to navigate, and the account REALLY easy to set up - took all of three minutes. You do have to post the CTF voucher directly to them, but they provide the address to do it directly if it is about to run out to save time. The account provides lots of updates, and can be viewed online - the management fee for running the account is 1.5% and the investments are automatically moved to lower risks after the child turns 13. I found them very easy to work with. We set up a direct debit for ourselves, and slips were provided for other family members to set up direct debits for themselves if they wanted to (which saved lots of hassle for us!). All in all - I am very pleased with their service and their trust fund, and if we have any more kids - we'll be using them again. Someone above did mention that you should setup a top up for as much as you can - and I agree! This account makes it easy to change your regular payments, and you do get a free gift which goes up the more you save monthly.

after a great deal of searching through all the different information i could find to do with the child trust fund i finally settled on the ethical child trust. this seems like a good choice for my child because of the sensitivity towards the companies which the Ethical Child Trust fund choose to invest my son's money in. i set the account up on the internet and all i had to do from then was to post the cheque along. i was also able to set up a small direct debit into this account so that it would grow year on year, so hopefully one day he will have a few pounds to spend as he chooses. all in all i can't find any downsides to this account only good. lets see how it performs now and the review may well change!

It's a long-established company with a proven record of managing investments, you have the option of having your money placed into ethical investments (which I know can often seem more of a concern once you have children), you can manage your child's account online, and their management charges are capped at 1.5% pa. They also move your money to lower risk investments once your child is over 13 I think, so that the investment is less risky as they get closer to 18. In addition they do offers of vouchers if you sign up online or I think if you later set up an ongoing direct debit. They keep you up to date regularly by post with any info about the account or the company.

Good Points: Very quick and easy to apply online. The product appears to have performed well since CTFs were set up although this is not guaranteed to continue. Only ethical companies are invested in.
Bad Points: The return on your investment is not guaranteed to always perform as well but as with all stakeholder accounts they are deemed long term investments and will perform better some years than others and will even out.

I spent a long time researching into the different providers as i wanted to set up a direct debit of £50 a month in addition to the £250 government voucher. I liked the simplicity of the family investments ethical fund. If you set up a direct debt for regular payments you can also recieve vouchers for ethical prducts.

I've just opened an account for my son after months of thinking and reading. It was very easy to do and the response was quick. Considering the fact that I've just joined them it's a bit early to review the overall service and the earnings, but I'm confident that I've made the right choice- after all Family Investments are behind names as Barclays, Saisnbury, Nectar, The Post office and so on, which makes them one of the leading Child Trust Fund providers. One other thing that made me choose them was that they offer an Ethical Child Trust Fund, which is a stakeholder account that invests in shares, avoiding any companies who deal with alcohol or tobacco, military users and so on which gives you the opportunity to save without harming anyone around you.You should be aware of course that opening a stakeholder account is a bit risky but it's better (for me at least) than a normal savings account. They will start to move the investment from shares to lower risk investments from your child's 13th birthday, helping to protect your child's savings. And you can always top-up the account at any time. Plus you can receive a choice of online gifts if you set up a regular Direct Debit when applying online (if you are after that kind of things :)

Good Points: This was very easy to set up on the internet, and previous records shows that in the past the fund has performed well.
Bad Points:It is worth remembering that past performance is no guarantee of future, however funds are moved into safer investments around the childs 13th birthday.

I did a little research into the different funds and decided to opt for this one as funds are invested ethically. In addition past records show that it has previously performed well. Opening the account was simple and I did not encounter any difficulties

After lengthy deliberation and research in this minefield of choices, we finally decided to opt for the Family Investments company and their Ethical Child Trust Fund option. The fund has shown good returns on the last 2 years trading, added to this the standard securities put in place by HM Government should ensure a decent return for our wee one. The web made it easy to open an account, and add a direct debit. I can add that if you can you MUST add to the fund by as much as you can afford, in 18 years they will need it, just look at how fast house prices and university fees are rising.

When I received my CTF voucher I didn't know what account to open so kept it for a few months.I seemed to get junk mail from these guys every day.  They offered £20 Spirit of Nature gift vouchers when setting up a monthly standing order of a minumum amount (approx £20)and many application forms were to hand so it was very easy to open the account. The account was opened very quickly and the vouchers also received with a problem. I seemed to get an awful lot of letters with incentives to increase the monthly standing order and tear off slips to give to family if they would like to pay in money directly. The account has been opened for one year now and the marketing side has died down. It is way too early to comment on how the actual fund is doing, but they seem to have a huge marketing budget.

We have two Child Trust Funds, one each for our middle and youngest children. They were very easy to set up. We reasearched it quite thoroughly before commiting to invest with them. We top them up each month via a direct debit. They earn a good rate of interest (return). It is a great way to reinvest child benefit or even child tax credits. We are regularly updated via information in the post, which encourages you to continue investing. Some months it is hard but the money could so easily be spent on clothes or toys. We really feel we are saving for our children's future. Just wish we could also set one up for our eldest child.

Tax Exempt Saving Plans (TESPs)

One of the best ways to save for your children's future is the Tax-Exempt Savings Plans (TESPs) from friendly societies. TESPs offer parents a simple way to save up to £25 for each family member per month in addition to, or instead of, a CTF.

TESPs can help you build up a lump sum for any child through small regular payments. You choose when the money is available for them, but the policy must run until they’re at least 16 and run for a minimum of 10 years.

TESPs are available for every member of the household so a family of four could save up to £100 a month tax-free and, provided the TESPs have been set up in the parent's names, the money remains firmly under their control. In addition, the flexibility of TESPs mean that they can be set up to mature at different points in a child's life.
